This Weeks Speakers
Membership Craft Talks
Come learn a little bit more about our fellow Club members - we'll be having Craft Talks, featuring stories and presentations from some of our newer members!
Director of Parks & Recreation, City of Fernandina Beach
Man it was cold inside!  We were moved to the main building due to the very cold and raining weather.  No one that I saw, removed their coats for sure.  Nan weathered the cold inside the restaurant to give us an update on the Parks and Recreation Department.
There are seven divisions within the Department:
Aquatics, Cemetery, Downtown, Martin Luther King, Jr., Peck, Recreation and the Youth Program
There is a total of 471.5 acres of land on Amelia Island that is maintained and managed by the city of Fernandina Beach Parks and Recreation.  The largest area is Egans Creek Greenway, a conservancy, with 316 acres with a 2.2 acre Egans Creek Park area.  Also managed is all the beach access area's we see all along Fletcher Ave.
There are 50 programs that are managed by the Department ranging from Camps to Senior Trips and all sports activities.  Additionally, there are 6 other programs provided by other non-profit groups through an agreement for use of City Facilities such as Little League Baseball, Youth Soccer, Swim Teams, etc.
Nan capped the presentation off with showing us slides of all the different type of animals that can be seen along the Egans Creek Greenway.
Thanks Nan, for putting up with the cold and taking the time out of your busy day to speak to us Rotarians. It was appreciated!

Club members are encouraged to get out and sell the two Fundraising Brochures they were given.  This is going to be a great year for us to reach our goals.  Rick Keffer had reminded us all that most of the monies raised always comes from "Individuals" not businesses.  He also issued a challenge for everyone:  For anyone who brings two sponsors to the luncheon, he will buy your luncheon ticket. Keeping that simple statement in mind makes finding people to join us for a great Luncheon not as difficult as one might think!  How cool is that!
