For the second year in a row, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club hosted 24 third-grade students from Emma Love Hardee Elementary School on the club’s Rotary Magic day trip to Walt Disney World and the Magic Kingdom. Members of the club along with teachers from the school acted as chaperones for groups of four to five students, all of whom had been selected for the trip based on academic achievement, good attendance and school service. The groups enjoyed an exhilarating day of thrilling rides, life-like animatronic shows and colorful parades featuring all the Disney princes, princesses and icons Mickey and Minnie Mouse. The groups took time away from the attractions just long enough to eat or grab an ice cream cone before the kids were back to having fun. The day at Disney ended with shopping for souvenirs before the tired, but happy students and chaperones boarded the bus for the return home. Since its beginning, Rotary Magic has been orchestrated by club member Rick Keffer and enthusiastically supported with both time and money by the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club, which hopes to make the trip an annual event for deserving elementary school students for many years to come.
