Recently, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club welcomed as guest speaker Andrew Baker, Nassau County’s first full-time Area Representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Andrew said his passion is to help local coaches and athletes achieve their goals on and off the field, which is also the mission of the FCA. He said that the FCA works with both middle and high school athletes and their coaches to improve the athletic experience by implementing the organization’s Four Cs: Coaches, Campus, Camps and Community. Some of the services the FCA offers include providing team meals prior to games, offering competition camps as well as training camps with high-level local athletes like former Jaguars’ player Donovan Darius and arranging for each team to have a Chaplain present at the games. In addition, the FCA strives to work closely with team coaches and parents to instill good sportsmanship in players and others involved in every level of local team sports. Andrew closed by outlining two FCA sponsorship programs available to anyone interested in supporting an athlete in need: The Relentless Pursuit Campaign in which a $55 donation will send a kid to training camp and the 300 Campaign – a $300 annual contribution which helps defray expenses for a local athlete.
