The Fernandina Beach Rotary Club recently welcomed back Amelia Island Book Festival President Susan Siegmund and 2014 Festival Coordinator Terri Wright. The two updated the club on this year’s Festival, which kicks off on Thursday February 20 with a concert by Danny Ellis. The main event begins on Friday February 21 with the Festival’s acclaimed Writers Workshops. Siegmund said the highlight of the two-day event will undoubtedly be bestselling author David Baldacci who will speak to a limited number of ticketholders at the FSCJ Betty P. Cook Nassau Center on Friday afternoon. This year’s guest at the Saturday Vystar Readers Luncheon will be Cassandra King, wife of renowned author Pat Conroy and a bestselling author in her own right. She will discuss her book Moonrise Over Amelia. While the luncheon, Writers Workshops and Baldacci event require the purchase of a ticket, many events, such as the Readers Festival and Authors in Schools program, are free and open to the public. Wright added that the money raised through event ticket sales funds both the Authors in Schools program and Author Link. These programs bring some 15 children’s authors into each Nassau County Public School to speak with more than 6,000 children and present the children with their own autographed copies of the authors’ books. And, as Siegmund said in closing, that is the primary goal of the Festival: To develop a love of reading in children and adults that will last a lifetime.
