Recently, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club welcomed some of the directors and cast of The Amelia Community Theatre (ACT) who provided the club with a glimpse of the plays ACT will perform in its upcoming season. Managing Director Linda McClane, who has been a member of the theatre since its inception in 1981, started off the program with a brief history of ACT, noting the successful completion of the Main Stage Theatre expansion in 2010. The highlight of the presentation was cast performances of scenes and readings from three plays headlining the theatre’s 33rd season, which opens in October with “The Love List.” This adult comedy directed by Marylee Long features Amy Petroy, Doug McDowell and Dan Cahill. While other plays have yet to be cast, ACT actors and directors Nancy Roeser, Fran Hindsley, David Roeser, Geoffrey King, Judy Laughrey and Jim Laughrey, offered a hilarious taste of ACT’s future lineup, including the holiday comedy “Fruitcakes,” the adult farce “Noises Off” and the return of an audience favorite “The Foreigner.” McClane closed the program by noting that in 2012 ACT received the American Association of Community Theatre’s Twink Lynch Award, which she said would not have been possible without the tremendous outpouring of support ACT has received from our community.
