The Fernandina Beach Rotary Club was pleased to welcome Baptist Medical Center Nassau President Stephen Lee, EdD, as a guest speaker.  Lee, who took over administration of Baptist Nassau from recently retired, long-time administrator Jim Mayo in January, has held several high-level positions with the Baptist network of hospitals for many years.  He talked about the local hospital’s history and noted that the facility had undergone significant expansion and improvement in the 33 years it has been at its current location, including completion of the state-of-the-art Berkman Building four years ago.  He also said that Baptist Medical is committed to continuing that positive growth and will soon break ground on a new 41,000 square foot office and professional building to open in 2014.  Since Lee took over, he has implemented programs to enhance communications between hospital staff and patients, increase the number of specialists available locally, identify and create more patient services and form a patient advocacy group.  He closed by commending the hospital’s board for its ongoing commitment to the community and said his goal is to make Baptist Medical Center Nassau the best community “citizen” it can be.
