Recently, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club enjoyed a presentation by Building It Green Owner Ashley Powell. Powell's company oversaw implementation of energy-saving, "green" building practices at the Nassau County Humane Society's recently constructed facility, She said the new buildings support a 21 percent reduction in potable water usage because 75 percent of its wastewater is being recycled. Not only is this good for the environment, but these recycling measures result in a significant savings for the Humane Society.

Powell went on to say that there are a number of ways homeowners can save money while decreasing their impact on the environment. Purchasing Energy STAR certified appliances, reducing energy consumption of existing appliances like water heaters and air conditioners and being mindful of the types of products consumers purchase to clean their homes will go a long way toward eliminating stress on our environment.
