Susan Siegmund, AIBF Board of Directors Vice-president stopped by and gave us an update on the Amelia Island Book Festival. Click for more information!

Susan Siegmund, AIBF Board of Directors Vice-president, was with us today. She revealed that in the Dec 2011 issue of The Amelia Islander the five pagecenterfold is dedicated to this year’s Amelia Island Book Festival. The festival runs from Fri, Feb 17th though Sat the 18th, 2012. Some of the events have an admission fee and some are free.

The headliner authors this year will be Steve Barry, the NY Times best selling author of the Cotton Malone series, Paula McLain who authored her first novel, A Ticket to Ride, David Morrell who authored First Blood from which the character Rambo was developed into a successful spy trilogy and Tatjana Soli who authored The Lotus Eaters, a critically acclaimed story of the Vietnam War seen though the eyes of a photojournalist.

Along with the events on the Island, there will also be a workshop demonstrating how to get published. Since publishing no longer requires having a manuscript published though a publishing house, the workshop will reveal how one self-publishes.

The Readers’ Festival is a free-to-the-public event on Sat from 9am to 4:30pm. Heretofore the festival was always held in October. However, since October has so many competing activities on the Island, this year it was moved to February. Susan took today’s opportunity to note the AIBF needs many volunteers to help with this two day event, and directed those individuals interested in helping to go to their website to sign up .
