Recently, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club welcomed Saxon Evans, a 22-year-old University of Florida MBA student, who spoke to the club about the national debt and its potential impact on his generation. Evans said the U.S. is currently in debt to the tune of $18.5 trillion dollars with more than $125 trillion in unfunded liabilities. He spoke about issues facing both Social Security and Medicare as the Baby Boomers age and said both entitlement programs face negative cash flows well into the future. Evan's said his research into the financial health of our country has lead him to believe his generation is likely to face a significant debt default if the government continues to spend as it has in the past.
