Rotary Club Welcomes 2013 Scholarship Recipients
Recently, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club welcomed six of the seven Nassau County High School seniors who received scholarships from the club this year. Fernandina Beach High School students Jenna Barnes and Tori Peters were both involved in student government at FBHS as well as in other school activities such as Little Women and Interact. After graduation, Jenna will be attending the University of Florida where she plans to major in pre-dentistry. Tori has been accepted at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill where she will pursue a degree in international affairs and, later, hopes to attend law school.
Mekayla Mekara graduated from Hilliard Middle-Senior High School. She was class president and Salutatorian and plans to attend Berry College in Rome, GA as a pre-vet major. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, she hopes to transfer to the University of Florida to complete a doctorate in veterinary medicine. Michael Lynch also graduated from Hilliard Middle-Senior High and was Valedictorian and class vice president. He is attending the University of Minnesota to study chemical engineering. Alison Martinez is a graduate of West Nassau High School in Callahan. She will be attending the University of Florida to become an RN and hopes to eventually become an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Georgia Lavender also graduated from West Nassau High and plans to attend Florida State College Jacksonville to study nursing with an emphasis on neonatal care.
Since 1993, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club has awarded nearly $315,000 in college scholarships to Nassau County high school graduates.
