Peter Ercey and Trevor Johnson of the Jacksonville Suns stop by the Club
The Fernandina Beach Rotary Club recently welcomed Peter Ercey and Trevor Johnson with the Jacksonville Suns. Ercey said Jacksonville has actually had a baseball team since 1904. In fact, the 1953 Jacksonville Braves team included Hank Aaron on its roster. It wasn't until 1962 that the ball club became known as the Suns. Former owner, Peter Bragan, revamped the program after purchasing it in 1984 and was a driving force behind construction of the 11,000-seat Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The club, now affiliated with the Miami Marlins, was purchased by Ken Babby last year. Ercey said Babby intends to take the franchise to an even higher level and is planning additional renovations to the stadium. He added that Babby's philosophy is that attending a Sun's game should be an affordable, enjoyable experience -- a three-hour vacation for family and friends.
