Florida State Representative Janet Adkins updates the Club and honors Veterans
Recently, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club welcomed member and Florida State Representative Janet Adkins, who gave the club a legislative update. Adkins, who had just returned from four weeks of committee meetings in Tallahassee, serves on both the Education Appropriations Subcommittee and K-12 Subcommittee. She said much of her legislative focus has been on bills to improve the standard of education for children in Florida.
Adkins also talked at length about Florida's recent recognition as the most veteran friendly state in the U.S. She noted that more than 1.5 million veterans reside in Florida and that nine percent of Nassau County residents are veterans -- from WWII, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War and Gulf War. In honor of Veterans Day, she then presented special medals in acknowledgment and gratitude for the service of six veterans and Fernandina Beach Rotary Club members: Jim Hook; Wally Messer; Roy Benson; Steve Sell; Larry Myers; and, Vince Cavallo.
