Recently the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club welcomed Fernandina Beach High School graduate Michael Walters who shared his experience as an outbound exchange student studying in Norway. Walters, who was sponsored for the Rotary Youth Exchange Program by the Amelia Island Sunrise Rotary Club, spent a year living with three Norwegian families, first in Kristiansand and later in Oslo. While there he not only attended high school where he learned to speak the language fluently, he also enjoyed both downhill and cross-country skiing as well as surfing, which he admitted was an icy experience. He, along with a group of other exchange students from around the world, also took part in the Rotary Youth Exchange Eurotrip to Berlin, Paris, Venice and several other cities throughout Europe. Walters closed by saying the Rotary exchange program provided him with the best experience of his life and has inspired him to pursue a law degree in England and to later live and work in Europe.
