The Fernandina Beach Rotary Club recently welcomed Donald Stamets, managing director of the Omni Amelia Island Plantation. Stamets said the Omni AIP is the largest non-governmental employer in Nassau County with some 1,000 employees. The resort boasts a budget of $88 million dollars and generated more than $6 million in revenue last year. Stamets spoke of his staff's commitment to Nassau County, saying that he and the 11 members of his executive staff each sit on at least one of the county's non-profit boards in support of such organizations as the Boys and Girls Club, Barnabas and others.

He went on to outline several capital projects the resort will be undertaking, primarily remodeling most of the original facilities and accommodations, which haven't been improved since being built in the 1970s.He closed by saying his management philosophy is that he'd rather catch the resort's employees doing something right rather than be forced to point out what they're doing wrong.
