The Fernandina Beach Rotary club recently welcomed Boy Scout Jacob Bishop for a special presentation.  Bishop, a scout in Troop 89, which the club has sponsored for more than 75 years, is working on his final Eagle Scout project.  He has designed recycling containers (pictured) to collect broken and discarded fishing line so that it won’t end up in the water where it could entangle turtles and other sea animals or be eaten by birds.  Bishop plans to build 10 canisters at a cost of $70 each to be placed at local fishing piers.  Monofilament fishing line can take more than 500 years to decompose and is a leading cause of death in marine wildlife.  The club took up a special collection to help Bishop with the cost of building the containers.
