Tiffany Adams from Americorps-VISTA Faces of the Homeless Speaker’s Bureau stopped by to give us an update. Click below for more information.

The Fernandina Beach Rotary Club recently welcomed as a guest speaker Tiffany Adams, a volunteer with the Americorps-VISTA Faces of the Homeless Speaker’s Bureau.  Adams spoke about the non-profit organization’s work with the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition of Northeast Florida (ESHC), which provides assistance in securing grants and funding for other organizations working with the homeless such as Hubbard House, the Barnabas Center and Community Connections.  She noted that recent surveys conducted by ESHC indicate a population of more than  4,200 homeless people in Duval, Clay, Baker and Nassau Counties.  Many of these people are disabled veterans or people who have fallen on hard times because of the recent downturn in the economy.  Adams closed by saying that she left her job at Bank of America to serve as a volunteer with the organization because she herself was once homeless and wanted to educate others that the homeless are often everyday people who have simply fallen on hard times.
