For the past seven years, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club has undertaken a local service project dear to the hearts of all its members – delivering dictionaries to every third grade student in Nassau County.  The club recently completed delivery to more than 871 students in elementary schools in Fernandina Beach, Yulee, Bryceville, Callahan and Hilliard as well as private academies including St. Michael’s, Faith Christian and Amelia Island Montessori.  Members of the club visit each school where they not only hand out dictionaries, but share information about Rotary and talk to students about the importance of education and how their new dictionaries can help them succeed in school.

For the second year in a row, the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club was honored to have as a partner the Amelia Island Book Festival, whose contribution helped in the purchase of the dictionaries.  Both organizations recognize that, for some students, the dictionaries may be the first book they’ve ever owned.  To learn more about the Dictionary Project and the Fernandina Beach Rotary Club’s many other service projects, visit the club’s website at www.fernandinabeachrotaryclub.org.
